Playground Safety

Playgrounds offer kids fresh air, friends, and exercise. So, it's important for everyone to make sure that we stay safe while using the playground. We can make sure that the playground is fun and safe for everyone by following some simple safety guidelines. Playing safely is important. If we know the rules of the playground, we are less likely to get hurt. We must know how to be safe and act responsibly at the playground.
When we use our playground, we should:
  •         Never push or roughhouse while on the playground and equipment.
  •         Leave bikes, backpacks and bags away from the equipment and the play area so that no one trips over them.
  •        Go down the slide one at a time and wait until the person in front of you is on the ground and has moved away from the slide. No climbing up the slide.
  •        Move away from the slide as soon as you reach the ground.
  •        Always slide sitting down, facing forward, feet first. NEVER slide down headfirst.
  •        Always check to make sure no other kids are in the way if you are going to slide or jump off equipment and always land on both feet with your knees slightly bent (safety landing).
  •      Do not climb on top of the monkey bars when other students are using them.
  •        Guardrails are there to protect you. Don’t climb over them.
  •        Climb steps and ladders slowly and hold on to the handrails.
  •        Never use playground equipment that is wet because moisture makes the surfaces slippery.
  •        Don’t go barefoot. Always wear your shoes. If you go barefoot, you could get a splinter or a cut.
  •        Play within your limits. If a part of the playground makes you nervous, try it out with your parent so they can help you and practice when there are fewer children playing around you.
