Terry Fox Run - Tuesday October 3rd

On Tuesday, October 3 rd , Royal Oak School and William D. Pratt School will be participating in the Terry Fox Run.  Students will gather on the field between the two schools to take part in the annual 30-minute run, which is scheduled to begin at 10:30am.  Students attending afternoon Kindergarten are welcome to attend, if they are accompanied by a supervising adult.   On this day please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for the weather (including running shoes).  If the weather is poor, students will walk inside the school during their PE class time.   We are asking that each child donate a “Toonie for Terry” for the Terry Fox Foundation during the week of September 26 - October 3 rd .    All parents/guardians who are interested in joining their child/children in this event are more than welcome.   We do require a fair number of volunteers for this event to ensure its success.  If you have security clearance and if you are able to volunteer during the r
September 1, 2017 Dear Parents and Students, I am so excited for the new school year to begin. For those of you that I have not met yet, I am the Physical Education teacher at Royal Oak School. I am very passionate about physical activity and sport and I can’t wait to see all of you in the gym. We are going to get moving and have a massive amount of fun this year. This summer was full of adventures with my friends and family. I had an amazing time travelling to New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island with my three children. We spent a lot of time at the beach exploring, camping and boating. Some of my other favorite things to do in the summer include mountain biking, hiking, paddle boarding and running. I love being outside and being active with my kids. I am looking forward to meeting all of you next week. Have a fantastic long weekend and we’ll see you on Tuesday! Sincerely, Ms. Hennick

Sports Day -  Thursday afternoon students at Royal Oak School will be participating in our annual Sports Day. Our theme for this year will be 'Your Favourite Sports' so we are asking students to wear a jersey of their favourite sports team or a t-shirt with their favourite sport on it for that day. We are also encouraging all students to bring a water bottle. After our events in the afternoon students will be treated to a snack of watermelon provided by parent council.

Jump Rope for Heart has informed me that they will have all totals completed by the end of the week and they will then submit the order for student prizes. Benefits of Skipping Children are naturally energetic, but without encouragement they can become inactive. Today many children spend more and more time sitting – in class, using the computer or watching TV.   As a result, more than half of Canadian children aren’t active enough for optimal health and development. Skipping is an efficient and effective way to get a great workout in just 15-20 minutes. Here are a few of the benefits of skipping: - helps to improve heart rate and blood pressure - provides a full body workout:   core, legs, glutes, shoulders and arms   - improves flexibility, coordination and balance - improves muscle tone in both the lower and upper body - assists with weight loss - it’s low cost and can be done anywhere - and, it’s FUN! Skipping is for everybody – young and old! Skipping is often overlooked, yet provides one of the easiest and most effective cardio workouts possible. It is used
