Rocks and Rings

Royal Oak School students will have the opportunity to participate in an activity called Egg Farmers Rocks and Rings presented by Curling Canada from November 30 th until December 6 th , during Physical Education classes. Curling is a fun sport to learn and participate in and aligns well with the Alberta Physical Education Curriculum. The aim of the physical education curriculum is to enable individuals to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. Curling is one of many activities that individuals may participate in for many years.   This program introduces students to the Olympic sport of curling and features a variety of drills, relays and team-building activities. It is taught using unique indoor floor curling equipment that helps to provide a true curling experience without requiring ice. Daily Physical Activity Kits

The DPA (Daily Physical Activity) Kits have finally rolled out into our classrooms! Thanks to parent Council and our fundraising committee who donated all of the funds to purchase equipment for our DPA kits! Our students will now have access to equipment to bring outside during their recess and lunch breaks. Our students at Royal Oak are lucky enough to have scheduled Physical education classes every day. These kits will help to ensure that our students have the opportunity to add even more physical activity into their day. The Canadian Physical Activity guidelines for children aged 5-11 years recommends at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily. Are you moving enough?
